Hello to you,
Its been a busy old time recently. What with the Icelandic ash cloud, the nation about to go to the hustings and the bout of pre-summer sunshine, its a wonder that anything has got done at all. However, I have been hard at work with lots going on, so thought I’d better do a little update. ‘Ere tis:
First up, there is a new Lack of Afro single on its way. “Special Baby” b/w “Beautiful Here” will be released on 17th May on Freestyle Records. Included on the 12” are remixes from UK funk supremos Funkshone (who do a grand job putting their live spin on “Special Baby”), and Brighton-based superstar Flevans (who has turned the downtempo “Beautiful Here” into a foot-tapping party banger!). Nice!
There is a load of new free stuff that you can download from this very website. Check out the Freebies Section for some live goodness from the LOA live band back in March, all recorded for The Craig Charles Soul & Funk Show on BBC 6Music. Also free to download is number four of the LOA/Node minimix series from back in the day. All for your listening pleasure…
I am currently working hard on writing and producing an album for Gene Garcia, to be released on Lovemonk Records later this year. Its sounding great: old-skool, warm and organic. The Diplomats of Solid Sound second album will be out later this year on Record Kicks, which I was responsible for mixing.
Other upcoming projects include “The Pick-Ups” (a collaboration with Flevans), a joint project with Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds, a few tracks with US rappers & multi-instrumentalists Wax & Herbal T co-produced with Damon Minchella , and I will be on production duty for Falmouth-based (and LOA band) guitarist Frootful, or Nick Radford as he’s known to his doctor. There might be the odd bottleg floating about too, nuff said…
Upcoming remixes include one for Hungarian funk outfit EZ A Divat and The Torpedo Boyz for Lounge Records
